McKinney city council liaison Patrick Coutier told the Visit McKinney board on Sept. 29 that four new air routes had been announced for the city’s airport — Denver, Nashville, Atlanta and New Orleans — and that the council will vote next week on a parking vendor and a concessions vendor for the airport.
"Four new cities were announced, Denver, Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans," Coutier said, noting flights are expected in November. He added that vendor decisions for parking and concessions are on the council’s upcoming consent agenda. The board’s tourism staff said the airport page on the new Visit McKinney website will list the new service and related traveler information.
Why it matters: new routes can increase visitor volume for downtown businesses, hotel occupancy and event demand. The city liaison and staff framed the vendor votes as preparatory steps to ensure services (parking, concessions) are in place as the routes begin. Coutier also encouraged board members to monitor the consent agenda next week and share feedback where appropriate.
Next steps: the council will formally consider the vendor contracts next week; Visit McKinney staff said they will update the tourism website to reflect confirmed schedules once airlines publish final timetables.
