The Facilities Operations Committee met on Sept. 29 to review a draft district master plan and, by unanimous straw poll, agreed to forward the plan to the full Board of Education for further discussion. Chair Scott said the meeting’s goal was “aligning that this, that we all feel comfortable with the proposal, the recommendation, and then to bring this to the full board of education from here is the, the ideal outcome.”
Vendors from MP Planning and Studio Jade presented a phased approach that prioritizes mission‑critical repairs and indoor air‑quality work while keeping longer‑term consolidation options on the table. Committee members asked for clearer visuals and a concise explanation of “the why” to help the full board understand tradeoffs and consequences of underinvestment. The committee did not take any binding votes on funding or construction; the straw poll simply cleared the plan for full‑board consideration.
The committee identified three principal issues driving the plan — pre‑K capacity, programmatic deficiencies in classrooms, and aging building systems — and agreed Phase 1 work should focus on mission‑critical HVAC, envelope and electrical upgrades to limit future emergency spending. The next step is a full‑board presentation that will include more implementation detail, cost deltas for keeping a swing school operational, and the potential town partner roles in any long‑term financing or site decisions.
