The City of Dilley City Council on Sept. 29 adopted Ordinance No. 26-29-09, setting the ad valorem property tax rate for fiscal year 2026–27 at 0.813912 per $100 of assessed value.
Council voted separately on the components of the rate before adopting the ordinance. The maintenance and operations rate (M&O) was set at 0.496898 after a roll-call motion by Councilmember Eric Aranda, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Everardo Castillo; that motion passed 3–1. The interest and sinking (debt-service) rate was set at 0.317014 following council action. The council then voted to adopt the ordinance establishing the total 0.813912 rate; the final roll call recorded all present councilmembers voting in favor and the ordinance passed.
Staff emphasized the city’s adopted rate is lower than the preceding year’s 0.827540. “The current year is 0.813912, which means we are decreasing this year's tax rate,” a staff member said during the presentation of the rate and accompanying budget materials. Counsel and staff also advised the council on statutory procedures and the effect of different votes on the city’s budget and earlier-certified tax rolls.
The council held this action during a special meeting at the Dilley Convention Center. The adopted budget and an explanatory flyer showing how the rate divides between city operations and debt obligations will be posted to the city’s website and official Facebook page, staff said.
Ordinance No. 26-29-09 takes effect per the dates stated in the ordinance; the council concluded the special meeting at 12:47 p.m.
