A staff member identified as “Cindy” gave the board a detailed walk-through of the charter renewal petition that would run from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2032, describing changes to the school’s program, governance and accountability systems and how progress will be measured.
Cindy framed the renewal around the 15 statutory charter elements and emphasized several performance measures and program expansions. She summarized academic outcomes, saying, “We have 96.5 graduation rate in 2025, 95.1, which is really outstanding and far outseats the district, the state, and really every other school, comparable school in our area.” The presentation covered targeted supports (MTSS, in-class tutoring, counseling), an expanded set of pathways (21 AP courses, 11 CTE pathways, dual-enrollment options), clarified discipline and expulsion review procedures, and new operational specificity for board oversight. Cindy told the board the petition will be heard by the LAUSD board on October 13; if approved there, the renewal process will be complete.
Board members praised the staff lead for the petition’s scope and rigor and asked procedural questions about distribution (electronic and in-board boxes) and public outreach for the LAUSD hearing. The board was told staff will bring students, teachers and families to demonstrate community support at the district hearing.
