The Centre County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt Proclamation 50 of 2026, declaring Oct. 1 the county’s Day of Caring and recognizing volunteer projects across the county. The motion to adopt the proclamation was made by a committee member and seconded by the chair; commissioners voted Aye and the motion carried.
Commissioners and presenters noted about 1,200 volunteers signed up for the one-day event and highlighted several project sites, including the Union Cemetery in Bellefonte, Centre Furnace Mansion and local land-trust and housing-transition organizations. One presenter described the scale and local history at Union Cemetery: "For those that that maybe don't know, there are, medal of honor winners that, that are there." The chair and other members thanked Kish Bank and organizer Carolyn for sponsorship and coordination.
The proclamation was followed by photographs and brief remarks; organizers said they would provide project lists and logistical details to volunteer teams. The proclamation formalizes the county’s support for volunteer coordination and recognizes sponsors and participating nonprofits.
