The Muskogee Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 28, 2026, to adopt the FY26-27 county budgets, authorize execution of the budget documents and obtain the necessary county officials' signatures. Commissioner Kenny Payne made the motion; Commissioner Ken Doke seconded and the motion carried with Chairman Keith Hyslop, Payne and Doke voting in favor.
Commissioner Doke said the final set of budget books matched the previously approved worksheet except for "a couple minor tweaks" and turned the floor to Treasurer Shelly Sumpter for clarification. Sumpter said an insurance payment from a prior fiscal year — "$161,000 and some change" — had not been included when the year was closed and is being transferred into the current fiscal year. She said that adjustment yields "$783.83 that is on the general government contingencies" and also noted "$0.37 cents on the county audit budget" tied to the one-tenth of a mill calculation. "We said we would let Bill add that to the budget and that is what the change is in the budget," she said.
The board's approval authorized staff to finalize signatures and execute the budget documents. No amendments or opposing votes were recorded during the motion. The meeting opened at 9:30 a.m. and adjourned at 9:35 a.m.
