City Engineer Thomas Mona presented design and bid results for curb and sidewalk reconstruction at the northwest corner of 5th and Main, a location where trucks have frequently encroached onto sidewalks and ADA ramps.
"We received 2 bids, and SSR Construction was the lowest qualified bid in $73,637.50," Mona said, noting the engineer's estimate was $79,000. The project would increase the corner radius from 30 feet to 44 feet, acquire about 120 square feet of right-of-way to maintain ADA compliance, keep the existing YDOT‑owned signal pole in place and replace sidewalk, curb, gutter and ADA ramps.
Mona said staff expects construction to take 30–45 days and that YDOT will need to review and approve traffic and detour plans. He said staff does not anticipate a vehicular detour but does expect a pedestrian detour around the corner work. Councilors praised the project as a core transportation and safety improvement funded by the city's extra penny sales-tax allocation.
