Lima City Council on first reading adopted a resolution memorializing former Fire Chief Theodore "Ted J." Brookman and extending condolences to his family.
The resolution, read aloud during the meeting, lays out Brookman’s service: he graduated from Lima Senior High School in 1966, served four years in the U.S. Air Force, joined the Lima Fire Department in 1971 and advanced through roles including lieutenant, captain, platoon chief, assistant chief and chief. The council voted to adopt Resolution 19-26 on its first reading by a recorded vote of 7–0.
Council members and residents recalled Brookman’s long service and community presence. One speaker said Brookman took “great pride in his service to the Lima community,” and another noted that he was among the first members to complete the department’s paramedic program. Family members and others in the meeting described personal memories and presented a retirement letter included in the meeting record.
The resolution states the council’s condolences and acknowledges Brookman’s contributions to public safety and the community. No follow-up action or policy change was announced; the resolution serves as an official memorial.
"For more than 30 years, I have dedicated my life to this department," the council read from a letter included in the record.
