The Granville County Board of Education voted Sept. 28 to declare the Butner Soccer/Football Field property at 501 East D Street, Butner, N.C., surplus and approved a joint resolution to convey three former school properties to Granville County.
"I move that the Granville County Board of Education declare surplus the Butner Soccer Football Field property located on the property of 501 East D Street, Butner, North Carolina," moved a board member identified in the transcript as speaker 9. The motion was seconded and, after a voice vote, the chair said the motion carried.
The board next voted to adopt a joint resolution approving an interlocal agreement with Granville County to convey the Mary Potter property, the Wilton property and the Butner properties and to authorize the chair to execute the agreements and deeds. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by the same board member and approved by voice vote.
A county commissioner subsequently moved that the Granville County Board of Commissioners accept the Board of Education's offer under the statute cited in the meeting and to authorize county officials to accept deeds and take steps to carry out the agreement; that motion was seconded and approved by the commissioners.
The votes were taken by voice; the meeting transcript records multiple "Aye" responses and the presiding officers announced that the motions carried. The board also authorized the superintendent and staff to take actions necessary to implement the conveyances.
The actions set in motion the transfer of three properties that the board and district staff had identified as surplus, and move responsibility for those properties to county ownership and management.
