The San Ramon Valley Unified School District board voted to adopt Resolution No. 42/2627, certifying that "each pupil has a textbook, a digital textbook, instructional materials or some combination thereof" for classroom use and homework. Assistant Superintendent Christine told the board the certification is based on enrollment counts and site check-ins; the board then moved and passed the resolution during the business meeting.
Cal High teacher Lucas West Morland, speaking during the public hearing, stressed that meeting the legal standard of sufficiency is not the same as ensuring modern, standards-aligned instructional materials for high schools. "Without a structured replacement plan, our high schoolers are left using materials adopted in some cases decades ago," he said, noting examples of math and social-studies texts adopted in the 2000s and earlier. West Morland asked the board to accept the staff 0s compliance certification tonight but to direct staff to add a multi-year high-school curriculum replacement plan to the LCAP to ensure instructional quality.
