The Select Board voted unanimously Sept. 28 to approve an alteration of premises for Shaw's Supermarket at 15 State Road, permitting a relocation and modest expansion of the store's beer‑and‑wine department as part of a broader $3.6 million renovation.
Attorney Nick Zazula, representing the applicant, told the board that the liquor department would be moved from its current location adjacent to the frozen section to a space adjacent to produce and expanded by 286 square feet — from 2,227 to 2,513 square feet — remaining a beer‑and‑wine license. “We're not asking for any upgrade or increase to all alcohol,” Zazula said, adding the change aligns the store with Shaw's typical footprint in Massachusetts. Board members raised security and egress concerns; the applicant said gates, point‑of‑sale shutdowns during non‑sales hours and added cameras would remain in place. The board approved the plans and the hearing was closed. The applicant said the liquor‑portion review must go to the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control agency and that construction is expected to take about two months after state review, with an optimistic completion around the holidays.
