Participants at the workshop spent a sustained segment on the Badger Two Medicine area and how cultural protections and wilderness designations interact. Several speakers emphasized that tribal involvement and cultural protocols must be central to land‑use decisions.
A participant working with tribal communities explained that some oil and gas leases were previously canceled because of cultural protections; the participant raised the roadless rule as a related policy instrument in current debate. The discussion repeatedly stressed that tribal voices and protocols need to be part of any protection plan.
"It is more culturally protective than anything else," one speaker said of cultural protection tools, urging that tribal protocols be respected in land management talks. Other participants said wilderness designation can protect wildlife corridors but that tribal management and consultation must be part of the planning process.
