The commission adopted a resolution authorizing off-highway vehicles (OHVs) to operate on specific sections of Windrock Road, Hoskins Gap Road and Cove Lane within the county’s Adventure Tourism District. The resolution designates precise stretches of roadway (Windrock Road: intersection to park trailhead; Hoskins Gap Road: intersection of Windrock Road to 300 Hoskins Gap Road; Cove Lane: specified segment) and sets operational rules including operator minimum age (16), valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, headlights and brake lights, and requirement to display a Windrock Park permit while on those road segments.
The resolution also requires appropriate safety equipment (helmets), the use of hand signals if vehicles lack turn signals, and gives the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department authority to revoke riding privileges for unlawful operation. The authorization is tied to the Adventure Tourism District designation and includes provisions for signage and notification to the Department of Safety where required by state law.
Commissioner Isbel moved the resolution during the Operations Committee portion of the agenda; the motion carried by voice vote. The exhibit included a proposed route map and details about permit requirements and revocation authority.
