Sarah Williams, the city's communications coordinator, briefed council on the Citizens Academy and the new Civic Series for seniors. She said the Citizens Academy will expand to nine weeks in 2027 to split police and fire content, will be limited to 25 participants (four from each ward plus one bonus seat), and the application window will open Oct. 1 at 8 a.m. and close Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. "The program is designed to increase transparency, community connection, and civic understanding with our Huber Heights residents," Williams said.
Williams also announced a new five‑week daytime 'Huber Heights Civic Series' tailored to senior‑center attendees; sessions will be one hour and cover a high‑level overview of city services including government structure, taxes, operations, safety and quality of life. Council members encouraged sharing slides and recordings on the city's website and praised the program's impact on civic engagement and recruitment for boards and commissions.
