Richard Goggins of the Budget Office told the Management and Finance and Policy Committee that sales tax collections for July 2026 totaled $29,100,000, an increase of $750,000 or 2.6% compared with July 2025. He said this was the highest monthly total outside of January and the sixth largest monthly collection in the city’s history.
Goggins said year‑to‑date collections are $1,100,000 (0.6%) above the same period last year but remain $3,300,000 (1.8%) below the 2026 adopted budget. He highlighted that collections from consistent taxpayers were up $1,700,000 (6.9%) for the month and that 10 of the 15 tracked sectors showed growth, led by the “other top taxpayers” category (up 14.7%) and utilities (up 13.5%). He also noted online‑sales taxpayers tracked by the city were up a combined 9.2% year‑over‑year and that clothing and accessories showed the strongest year‑to‑date growth at 10.2%.
Goggins said he will work with planning to provide clearer use‑tax and permit information in future revenue updates and that he had recently received August sales tax numbers but had not completed analysis. Committee members did not object to the report and had no further questions.
