The U.S. Coast Guard has awarded an $8,800,000 contract to repair and modernize 17 homes across Springs and East Hampton that house active-duty personnel and their families, officials said on Friday.
Planned renovations include new heating and cooling systems, replacement roofs, and fully redone kitchens and bathrooms. The project also calls for replacing outdated septic systems with low-nitrogen technology intended to protect local groundwater, decommissioning old wells and extending municipal water lines that will also create civilian connections in adjacent neighborhoods.
In a statement quoted on-air, the Coast Guard said, "by investing in housing in Springs and East Hampton, the Coast Guard is supporting the personnel and families who help sustain critical operations across the region." The report said the goals of the project include boosting morale and improving overall readiness for Station Montauk service members.
The work differs from typical military housing because the units are located within neighborhood settings. No contract timeline or contractor name was reported in the segment.
