The University of Nebraska Board of Regents on Sept. 25 approved four representatives to serve on the Nebraska Medicine Board.
President Gold introduced the slate and said the nominees were selected "for their expertise, their service to the university, and their ability to represent the board in thoughtful and deliberate manners." The four named by President Gold were Tann Ostergard, Paul Kinney, Jim Scherer and Joel Macavica. The board moved and seconded approval of the entire slate and the clerk recorded a roll-call vote; the motion passed.
A regent speaking in support said the nominees bring relevant professional and community ties: one was described as a longtime business leader and another as a recruiter for allied-health programs, and another as a small-business owner and long-serving local official. That regent also urged consideration of adding a board member with philanthropic relationships, saying the university is "on about the 25 yard line" in fundraising and needs continued philanthropic support.
The board took no separate votes on individual nominees; the slate was approved as presented. The meeting materials listed the Sept. 1 minutes and the agenda item number as 5(a)(1). No additional implementation steps or effective dates for the appointments were discussed in the public portion of the meeting.
The approval followed the board's standard process: President Gold presented the nominations, a motion was made to approve the slate, a second was recorded, and the clerk conducted a roll-call vote. The clerk announced the motion passed.
