Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Reed Gibson briefed the council on Division 5 activity through August and provided data on incident responses: "we have uh 25 or 26 fire calls, 253 medical rescue, 24 traffic collisions, uh 59 hazardous conditions, and 888 others." He clarified not all fire responses were working fires but that the numbers reflect dispatches through the reporting period.
Gibson highlighted four incidents: a remote mountain-bike rescue involving multiple agencies and an aerial response; a recent vehicle fire that spread into nearby vegetation but was contained to roughly one-third of an acre with no injuries reported; a second-floor condo fire with one person transported with burn injuries; and a widely shared duckling rescue that drew national attention. He also reviewed outreach—44 reported in-city events including school visits, station tours and the Sea Country Festival—and promoted upcoming community events and the OCFA station open house on Oct. 3.
Gibson encouraged residents to follow OCFA Division 5 social channels for updates and noted continued interagency wildfire planning and youth-focused mock DUI events at local high schools.
