Leun Mella Embella, Cameroon’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, addressed the General Assembly on behalf of President Paul Beia and opened by congratulating the newly elected president of the session and welcoming the predecessor's work.
Embella said the session theme — “restoring trust” and “managing transformation” — was pertinent to current global frictions and called on member states to return to the principles of the United Nations Charter. He praised the Secretary-General for his leadership and thanked him for “the magnitude of his legacy” as he prepares to leave office.
"The time has come to return to the spirit and the very basics of the United Nations Charter," Embella said, endorsing the Assembly's focus on rebuilding trust and consensus across states. He framed the work of the Assembly as an opportunity to seek compromises and practical solutions to shared challenges.
Cameroon's delegation pledged full cooperation with the Assembly's new leadership and reiterated support for initiatives such as UN80 to strengthen international cooperation and solidarity.
