Camina Johnson Smith told the General Assembly that reparatory justice is rooted in truth, acknowledgement, repair, compensation, development and reconciliation, and that Jamaica supported the General Assembly resolution on the subject.
Smith said Jamaica delivered a petition to Buckingham Palace framing critical questions on reparations; she told delegates the petition has been referred to the judicial committee of the Privy Council. "Reparatory justice is at its heart about truth, acknowledgement, justice, repair, compensation, development, and reconciliation," she said.
On Cuba, Smith said Jamaica is deeply concerned by the humanitarian cost there and urged domestic reforms and greater integration of Cuba into the international economic system to create pathways for progress rather than perpetuate isolation under the blockade. She called for continued dialogue and constructive engagement to address humanitarian needs.
