Pat Horcher, president of the Village of Wheeling, told attendees at the groundbreaking that the Sky Harbor hangar campus will likely be the largest building in Wheeling and said the village has been preparing for this type of development.
"This is going to be the biggest building that we've got in Wheeling. 300,000 sq ft. It's going to have a capacity of 20 or so private corporate jets," Horcher said, stressing that municipal infrastructure such as water and sewer are prerequisites for the project to proceed. She framed the investment as evidence that past village investments are attracting new development.
Horcher noted the project will benefit both Wheeling and neighboring Prospect Heights and welcomed Sky Harbor among other recent companies locating similar facilities in other markets. No new village funding or permits were announced during the ceremony; Horcher emphasized the village’s willingness to collaborate on infrastructure to make the project possible.
