Public works and maintenance staff briefed the committee on ongoing street- and facility-level work including pothole repairs, fire station bids and trash-collection arrangements.
Staff said two pothole trucks typically go out most days to address reported defects, and that the city logs potholes daily for follow-up. On the central fire station project, staff reported bids were opened, a low bidder later withdrew a bid due to a mathematical error, and the city plans to move forward with the next-lowest responsible bidder, Puland, and execute a contract.
On trash and parks, staff said park barrels are emptied several days per week and decorative barrels on South Main and other contracted corridors are serviced under a vendor contract; the department is investigating compacting "big belly" style receptacles for high-use areas and will coordinate placements with event operations.
Councilors asked staff to verify building ages in city records (several buildings listed as 1930 in assessor cards may date earlier) and requested continued focus on visibility and maintenance in targeted corridors.
