Commissioners table veterans-board appointment, schedule candidate interviews

Commissioners discussed nominees for a veterans service board seat and agreed to postpone a formal appointment so candidates can be scheduled to appear.

Randy Julian referenced a previously proposed candidate, Emma Gains, and another commissioner proposed Andy Sutton, noting Sutton’s military service and private-sector operations experience. One commissioner summarized Sutton’s background: "he oversees 105 acre facility 30 acres under roof ... successfully manages $12 million annual operation budget alongside $25 million capital budget." The board agreed to invite nominees to a future meeting for interviews and then tabled the appointment; the motion was recorded as "motion carries."

The decision leaves the seat open pending candidate interviews. Commissioners said they will coordinate calendars and return the item to a future agenda for a formal vote.
