The Sun City Governing Board unanimously approved a resolution Sept. 24 formalizing who will set agendas for closed executive sessions after recent changes to Arizona open‑meeting law.
Board President Director Slumber introduced the motion and said he and Executive Assistant Karen Repkin worked with legal counsel on the language. "I move that the governing board adopts the resolution regarding the authority to set agendas for open and closed board meetings and to prepare motions for consideration at open meetings as denoted in the attachment and certified by governing board president as of September 24, 2026," he said. Director Andeknau seconded the motion.
Slumber told the board the action responds to changes referenced in the meeting as "Arizona State Statute 833-1804," which he said requires that votes on matters discussed in closed session must be taken in open meeting. He explained routine practice will be to carry votes to the next regular meeting when feasible, but in some cases (for example, certain residential matters) the board might call a special meeting so the required open vote can occur promptly.
After a brief floor check and no public comment, the president called the roll and the chair announced the motion passed. The meeting record shows eight members present and the motion carried.
The resolution states that, for Sun City’s governing board, the board president in conjunction with the executive assistant will set agendas for closed sessions. The board discussed logistics briefly: Director Groman later asked whether adopted resolutions would be posted to the public hub so they are easier for residents to find, and staff said they would determine how to make resolutions available.
The action takes effect as recorded in the meeting minutes; the board did not set an alternate effective date during the meeting.
