Maria Teresa Lazaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, told the United Nations General Assembly that the Philippines "reaffirms" its call for an "immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza" and urged the protection of civilians and the release of all hostages.
Lazaro framed the appeal as part of a wider concern about global conflict and institutional strain, saying more than "50 active conflicts" are "tearing the fabric of nations." She asked parties to "deescalate, exercise restraint, and return to the path of dialogue," and called for full compliance with international law, including international humanitarian law.
"We reiterate our call for an immediate and sustained ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians, the release of all hostages, and full compliance by all parties with international law," Lazaro said. The statement was part of a broader speech that linked humanitarian concerns in Gaza to global risks, including food insecurity and climate emergencies.
The Philippines also reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and said the two-state solution "remains the only viable path to lasting and durable peace." Lazaro did not propose a specific UN resolution or procedural motion in this address.
