Tong Sawan Pompeia told the General Assembly that recent conflicts in the Middle East underscore the limits of unilateral action and the need for diplomacy and international law.
"The question of Palestine remain an enduring test of multilateral credibility," Pompeia said, and he urged immediate action to address the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza and mounting challenges in the West Bank. He called on the international community to "secure a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace" that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and to pursue a two-state solution leading to an independent State of Palestine with full membership in the United Nations.
Pompeia framed these steps as necessary to restore trust in international institutions and to prevent the two-state solution from slipping beyond reach. The address made no new proposal for specific mediating mechanisms or timelines.
