Roxanna Miranda, founder and president of Velu Laser, told attendees that the first job of social media is recognition: create a consistent look, a repeatable voice and a clear feeling that customers can identify within five seconds.
"Recognition has to come before conversion," Miranda said, and walked the room through the "five‑second brand test": cover the username on an Instagram feed and ask whether an observer can say what the business does, how the brand feels and who it is for. She used local examples — Ernie's Acai, Bon Vivant, Chelas — to show how consistent color, typography and post style make brands instantly identifiable.
Miranda emphasized human storytelling: document processes, repost customer testimonials, show before‑and‑after results and add clear calls to action so social traffic can convert into bookings. She said AI can speed execution but should follow a business's predetermined point of view: "AI is great... but the final call has to be yours. It is not your marketing department."
During the session participants completed the five‑second test with partners in the room and discussed improvements. Attendees who wanted more detail were invited to collect the speaker's slides and follow the scheduled Q&A.
