The Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety on Sept. 17 approved revised road-closure dates for rail repairs on the West Lake corridor and approved a $168,000 professional-services agreement for rail crossing signage and striping.
A presenter for the contractor work explained that track grounding repairs at the Homeman/Holman and Sheffield crossings required shifting the previously scheduled closures: "we're going to move the Holman Avenue crossing to the September 25th through 28th and the Sheffield crossing to October 2nd through 5th," the presenter said. Engineering staff told the board that detours had been reviewed and recommended approval. The board voted to approve the revised dates.
Separately, staff brought a final contract with DCCM Engineers for rail crossing signage and striping; the board was told the scope and funding allocation had been approved previously and this agenda item was for execution of the physical contract. The board approved the DCCM agreement on the consent vote. Both items were presented as part of coordination for ongoing West Lake corridor work.
