Facilities staff told the committee that the jail chiller project is moving forward and several other building projects are in progress. Wesley reported that "the new chillers will be set today as we speak," saying crews had poured pads and were using a crane to set equipment; he added one chiller had already been removed and the remaining unit would be taken out in October or November.
Wesley said pipe insulation testing came back clean, avoiding asbestos abatement and saving money. He also noted progress on the assessor's office renovation (phase-one deadline noted) and the finance director’s office wall repairs and painting. Kurt said a pre-construction meeting for the four-pipe HVAC project is scheduled as soon as the air-conditioning season ends, allowing field work to begin this winter.
Other facilities items included completed annual backflow testing, scheduled fire-hydrant testing on a weekend, ongoing flooring and ceiling-grid installation for renovated offices, and contingency planning to replace an aging west chiller for the criminal justice center next fall. Wesley also said the facilities division was down one staff member and is screening applicants.
