Yanira Rodr guez, community outreach manager for Montgomery College, told listeners that the college s Instituto Hispano de Negocios is offering short-term, career-focused certificate classes in Spanish aimed at helping people enter or advance in the labor market. "Estas clases ... son en español," Rodr guez said, stressing that instruction in Spanish makes the programs more accessible to the county s Hispanic community.
Rodr guez outlined program areas that include automotive, construction (including multiple electricity courses), computing, social-media and small-business promotion, and food-handler training. She said the certificates provide the "horas de educación continua" that employers look for and can help students gain entry to jobs and develop technical skills. Classes run on staggered schedules (fall, spring, summer) and are offered in both in-person and online formats to accommodate working students.
The college s outreach office provides advising and application support for people who need help with prerequisites, schedules or documentation. Rodr guez invited listeners to contact the outreach office to arrange individualized assistance and to learn which courses are accepting enrollments for the upcoming sessions.
