The Mayville Finance Committee voted to recommend the mayor's proposed 2027 Police Department budget after Police Department representative Ryan Tolner said he had reviewed the mayor's proposal and supported it. Tolner told the committee the department's operating request is largely consistent with current spending and includes a 3.5% cost-of-living allowance applied citywide and targeted wage adjustments for the chief and lieutenant to better match field scales.
Tolner flagged a small emergency-management maintenance increase tied to the department's outdoor sirens and outlined capital needs. "I agree with it," Tolner said of the mayor's proposal. He also cautioned the committee about radio and vehicle replacement timelines: "our radios currently are 12 years old," he said, and the department expects to phase in a larger radio upgrade in a later budget cycle. Tolner detailed capital items for 2027 that include replacement of six AEDs (~$12,000), firearms replacement (~$10,000 on a five-year cycle), a squad car and upfitting (vehicle estimate $61,000–$62,000 plus upfit), carpeting and a $35,000 line-item for radio upgrades.
The committee recorded a roll-call vote and approved the recommendation to forward the Police Department budget to the full council. Members asked staff to confirm grant offsets and timing for the radio plan and to treat the modest siren maintenance increase as part of the operating recommendation rather than a separate emergency-management agenda item.
