During the Finance Committee's review of the Police Department budget, Ryan Tolner laid out several capital priorities that the department expects to finance over the coming budget cycles. Tolner listed replacement of six AEDs (about $12,000), a firearms replacement cycle (about $10,000), a squad purchase and upfitting (vehicle estimate $61,000'$62,000 plus upfitting) and carpeting for the squad room. He said the radio upgrade was budgeted as a $35,000 item in the near term but the full replacement would be phased.
Tolner told the committee the timing and cost remain estimates and that grant funds would not fully cover the expected radio program, which staff expect to total in the low six figures. "Our radios currently are 12 years old," Tolner said, adding that a full replacement schedule may land in the 2029 cycle. Committee members asked staff to verify grant offsets and to present a clearer capital schedule before the council vote.
