The Commission on Aging voted to adopt a revised governing document for the Allies in Aging program after staff presented a track‑changes version that incorporated legal suggestions.
Director Matthew Wright said the changes were minor and procedural and recommended adopting the revised copy and posting it on the program web page. "If y'all don't have any additional suggestions aside from linking the application, the actual application form to the document, if the commission would like to, y'all can, y'all can elect to adopt this document as is," Wright said. Commissioners asked staff to attach a copy of the application template (rather than only a link) so applicants can view the form before applying.
Commissioners also discussed adding a checkbox on the application to confirm whether applicants are individuals or nonprofits and, if nonprofit, to provide verification (for example an EIN). Wright said the suggestion came from legal to ensure the program does not endorse for‑profit entities. One commissioner urged keeping the application simple so it does not become a barrier for community volunteers.
A motion to adopt the revised Allies in Aging governing document was made and seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice vote. Staff committed to sending the track‑changes version and the application template to commissioners ahead of the next meeting and to implementing the nonprofit verification checkbox before posting.
