Sheriff Patrick Engle presented multiple items to the board. He asked the Legislature to accept an $1,800 Purina donation for canine food, which the board approved as a budget savings in the sheriff’s office animal care line.
The sheriff also requested reallocation of funds originally set for radios to purchase an MK4 heartbeat detector, describing the device as a search tool that can detect life inside structures to improve search and rescue and warrant operations; the board approved the reallocation.
On equipment procurement, the sheriff presented a proposed five‑year agreement with Axon Enterprises for tasers, saying the longer contract would save approximately $30,000 compared with shorter renewals. The board authorized the chair to sign the Axon contract.
Separately, sheriff staff presented an update on correctional facility overtime: fiscal figures indicated jail overtime spending at approximately $3,173,580.01 to date; after previous budget transfers and monitoring, staff said current trends may allow the year to finish without additional appropriations but monitoring will continue.
