Commissioners recess into executive session to interview county administrator candidate

The chair of the Miami County Board of County Commissioners moved to recess the special meeting into an executive session to interview "Candidate A" for the position of county administrator, invoking the personnel exception in KSA 75-4319(b) to protect the applicant's privacy.

"The open meeting will resume in this room at 02:20," the chair said. The chair also listed those who would be present for the interview and subsequent meetings: the five county commissioners, County Administrator Shane Kroll, commissioner‑elect Jamie Rainey, Human Resources Director Sarah Denning, Assistant Human Resources Director Bella Bridal and Canada Day.

A board member seconded the motion, and the chair announced the motion passed by unanimous consent. The board left the room for the executive session; the chair later said the board returned at 02:20 "with no results," indicating no selection or final action was announced at the meeting.

After the executive session the chair said there could be more than two commissioners meeting the candidate at the sheriff's office and that the candidate would meet department heads and others from 02:20 to 03:05. The chair then adjourned the special meeting.
