A representative of Amazon said the Scam Justice Legal Clinic was created to help victims recover after they are targeted by scams.
"The Scam Justice Legal Clinic is focused on helping victims recover that have already been targeted and victimized by these terrible scams," the Amazon representative said. The presenter framed the clinic as a response to widespread fraud and rising reported losses.
Partners described how the clinic connects victims with brief legal help, evidence-collection guidance and referrals. A Davis Wright Tremaine representative said the firm supports the clinic’s infrastructure and ensures volunteer participation follows pro bono and ethics rules. The Better Business Bureau Institute and the Pro Bono Institute provide referrals and malpractice coverage that enable in-house lawyers to volunteer, speakers said.
Organizers also stressed the clinic’s trauma-informed approach and privacy protections. The clinic’s virtual, "no files in, no files out" model is intended to let attorneys offer advice without creating long-term attorney-client relationships, organizers said. The partners said the clinic has held multiple sessions since launch and aims to scale nationwide.
