A representative of Amazon said the company’s investigative work into fraud led it to convene partners for the Scam Justice Legal Clinic.
"Amazon is involved in investigating various scams and frauds that target Amazon, our customers, or consumers," the Amazon representative said, describing how that work revealed gaps in access to legal services for victims and prompted outreach to law firms and nonprofits.
A representative of Davis Wright Tremaine described the firm’s role in building infrastructure, integrating partners and ensuring compliance with pro bono and ethics rules so volunteers can participate. The Better Business Bureau Institute representative said the BBB’s Scam Tracker helps identify cases for referral, and the Pro Bono Institute representative said PBI contributes malpractice insurance and guidance to reduce obstacles for in-house volunteers.
Speakers said the partners provide complementary strengths: investigative capacity (Amazon), legal infrastructure (Davis Wright Tremaine), referral and public reporting (BBB) and volunteer enablement (PBI). Organizers said the collaboration is central to scaling the clinic to reach more victims.
