Erica Wilson, chair of the Creative Placemaking Strategy Advisory Committee, said the committee would ask the county planning director to attend the next meeting to clarify what the committee can and cannot do and what staff support exists.
Committee members said the group needs written guidance on three points before it expands outreach: the lines of authority for the advisory committee, the planning department’s current staff capacity to support creative placemaking work, and the director’s plan for implementing the creative placemaking strategy — including any staffing or funding steps. One member framed the request as a narrowly scoped set of questions to give the director time to prepare.
Several members cautioned against restarting public outreach without clarity from planning staff. One committee member said, “I don't want them to think that we're in a position to, like, move on a project just because they have a name,” urging the group to avoid overpromising communities without a review or funding process. The committee agreed to prepare three focused bullet points for the director in advance and invite him to the next meeting so all members hear the same guidance.
The action builds on recommendations in the adopted creative placemaking strategy and seeks to align the committee’s volunteer work with county processes so the committee can provide useful, realistic support to planning staff.
