The council authorized the city to acquire former VSP buildings at 10845 and 10875 International Drive plus an adjacent vacant parcel, totaling roughly 150,000 square feet on approximately 18 acres, for $11,500,000 as the first step toward creating a community center for learning, arts and innovation.
City staff framed the purchase as an opportunity to create a multiuse community hub and asked for support to move forward with the purchase-and-sale agreement and recordation of a grant deed. A council member called the purchase "probably the most significant project we've undertaken as a council" and said the center could positively affect virtually every Rancho Cordova resident. After brief discussion and no public comment, the council voted to approve the resolution authorizing the acquisition.
Staff and council said subsequent conversations and design work will determine program mix and partnerships for the site.
