The Parks, Recreation and Beautification Committee voted to set rental rates for the city’s newly purchased mobile stage at $1,500 per day with a $1,000 security deposit.
Parks staff described logistics for transporting, setting up and tearing down the trailer-style stage and warned that labor and overtime could raise costs. "I'm requesting rental rates for the new mobile stage set at 1,500 per day with 1000 dollar deposit," Parks staff member Russell Hooper said while explaining comparable municipal rates and setup concerns. Public commenters representing local music and production groups urged practice sessions and cautioned that the fee would be steep for some local artists. "That's pretty fair if it included lights and sound, but I feel like it's very steep without it," said Adam Penland, a local event contractor.
Committee members emphasized balancing affordability with protecting the $170,000 asset and the practical costs of transport and staffing. Commissioner Jones moved to approve the proposed rate and the chair seconded; the motion passed. The item will be monitored and staff said they may return with adjustments after hands-on setup trials and clearer labor estimates.
The decision includes a directive that the city will transport the stage on a city vehicle and that renters must carry event insurance and follow a pre- and post-inspection checklist. Staff said they will schedule practice setups and offer demonstrations to prospective renters to clarify power, access and staffing needs.
