A committee member said the town-level arboretum proposal is tentatively scheduled for the board’s Nov. 10 meeting and that committee members should be prepared to present public-facing education and grant ideas if the board moves it forward.
“The second item is the arboretum… I think what we’re looking at right now is November 10th for it to come before the board,” said a committee member. Members discussed using the arboretum as a platform for educational programming, grant applications and community engagement if the board approves the plan.
Speakers recommended drafting a clear mission statement and identifying one or two "champions" for specific projects so work can proceed between monthly meetings. A staff member noted the town’s budgeting schedule and suggested the committee could seek micro-grants or request funds in the upcoming fiscal-year budget cycle.
Committee members also discussed practical next steps — drafting a timeline, creating handouts for events such as OctoberFest, and preparing talking points for the board presentation. The committee agreed to refresh outreach materials and coordinate with staff to ensure accurate, current project displays for any public presentation.
