The Seymour City Council on Thursday adopted the city's fiscal 2026'27 budget and set the ad valorem tax rate at 0.411263 per $100 of valuation, the voter-approval rate that staff said reflects recent increases in property value and local activity. Councilors conducted a roll-call vote to approve the budget and the ordinance establishing the tax rate; members present voted to approve both measures.
City staff presented an overview showing roughly $11.75 million in total budgeted dollars, with about $1.7 million classified as non-operating adjustments tied to reserves and capital activity. "We are looking at having about 11.7 million budget," staff said during the presentation, and they noted an 8.5% increase in the budget compared with the previous year driven largely by higher taxable value and increased water and electric sales. The staff packet and final adopted documents will be posted on the city website, officials said.
Council members said the rate choice reflected caution about balancing services and growth. After a formally recorded motion and second, council conducted a roll-call; the record shows affirmative votes from multiple members present and the measures carried. The council also reviewed its outstanding debt schedule during the discussion and noted the city's intention to continue transparent posting of financial statements online.
