The council voted to deny a developer's request to convert a lot at 401 West 11th Street into a 10-RV commercial lot after multiple neighbors raised safety and neighborhood-impact concerns. Ranger Donell, whose property adjoins the proposed site, told the council he and his wife are expecting a child and said he worried about placing an RV park adjacent to housing authority apartments and a daycare: "I just think that we need to take a deeper look into where we put these to keep everybody safe and especially the kids and children in our neighborhood," he said.
The applicant and supporters argued that RV lots have generated revenue and generally brought no serious complaints in other locations; the applicant said he maintains fencing and lighting and that most occupants are transient workers. Following discussion and a voice vote, the council recorded a motion not to approve the application and the motion carried. The council did not approve the 401 West 11th application.
