Union County council reviewed and approved an interlocal agreement to consolidate 911 dispatch services with neighboring Wayne County.
A county staff member, presenting the agreement, told the council that "your annual fee for a payment to Wayne County for 911 dispatch services um will be $200,000. That's $50,000 a quarter. Um and that begins October 1st of this year." The presenter said Wayne County's governing body had already approved the same agreement and that the county attorney had added protective language addressing Union County's fiscal obligations.
The agreement is described in the meeting record as a limited-term arrangement that includes a 180-day termination notice for either party. The presenter said the county sheriff will serve as Union County's representative on the multijurisdictional 911 operations board and will attend quarterly meetings in Wayne County.
Council members asked about operational details, and staff said the move is expected to reduce local recurring costs and to improve continuity of service by routing dispatch work to a dedicated, full-time team. The council voted to accept the interlocal agreement and sign the executed documents.
