Bob Wilson, chair of the Torch Committee, described a remodel of the Citizens Academy from seven sessions into a three‑tier program designed to be easier for members to attend. "The first level is essentials... a compressed version of the previous 7 session version," Wilson said, describing Levels 1–3 as Essentials, Conference, and Future with increasing depth and a two‑day format for the highest level.
Wilson said Essentials sessions are set for Oct. 12 and 27 (two sessions) and the Conference session is set for Nov. 6; the Essentials sessions were full and 66 of 100 slots were enrolled for the conference session. He encouraged members to review agendas available on the Torch/Citizens Academy website and asked residents to sign up for a volunteer fair organized by the Sun City West Foundation on Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at suncscwfoundation.org so organizers can plan for attendance.
The program redesign aims to make civic orientation and volunteer recruitment more accessible; Wilson noted higher-level sessions require completion of lower levels or prior participation within five years.
