Several board members said they want a follow-up conversation after a two-hour study session that focused on screen time use and artificial intelligence in classrooms. President Bernett and Director Lee said the session raised many questions and that a more substantive discussion is needed so the board can consider a districtwide approach rather than ad hoc, year-by-year rules.
"There was so much to talk about with those two topics that we had to cut each other off just to get it through," one director said, urging the board to plan an additional meeting to process findings and consider policy. Members suggested expanding consideration to edtech beyond screen-time limits, creating an AI subcommittee, and using the technology advisory group as a starting point for board involvement.
The board urged families with questions about classroom screen use to start with a teacher and then contact learning services for detail; staff said they will produce clearer materials for community reference. The discussion did not result in a formal motion; staff were asked to return with next-step proposals and options for a follow-up board discussion.
