Committee reviews 2027 budget calendar and accelerated opt‑out timeline

Miss Green walked the committee through the 2027 budget calendar and explained procedural steps the board must follow. She said the audit presentation is scheduled for Nov. 12, 2026, and the first look at the 2027–28 budget will occur on Feb. 25, 2027. "The board has to formally adopt a budget by June 30th of 2027," she reminded the committee, noting state requirements shape the schedule.

Miss Green described the accelerated budget opt‑out resolution that the board typically considers in November: voting to declare the district will not raise taxes above the certified Act 1 index (3.6% for 2027–28). "There has to be a 30‑day waiting period between that approval and final approval," she said, explaining the pacing between proposed and final budgets. Board members were told the opt‑out has been used in prior years and the committee will continue to discuss tax and program tradeoffs throughout the process.
