County staff and consultants presented a finalized ADA self-evaluation and transition plan that identifies barriers to program access, proposes remediation actions, and assigns responsible departments and timelines.
Sarun of SCS Engineering explained the project scope and federal requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act, telling the board the transition plan "identifies the barriers within the County programs and facilities and establishes the framework for prioritizing the improvements over time." After a public commenter who said, "I have 2 disabilities. I'm slow and old," expressed skepticism about the scale and cost of ADA compliance, the board asked no further questions and voted unanimously to adopt the plan.
The adopted plan includes recommendations that county staff said will be used to prioritize maintenance actions, targeted alterations, and capital projects (for example, parking and points of arrival at the sheriff's station and veterans hall were cited as active projects). Staff also named an ADA coordinator and explained outreach completed as part of the process.
