Sally Warner, Rosebud County Clerk and Recorder and election administrator, told the board during public comment that "our office has been receiving a lot of phone calls concerning questions on their voter registration status." She said the county has seen an uptick in phone calls and text messages asking voters to check their status and that the contacts are causing confusion.
Warner urged residents not to panic and to use official tools: "We're just asking people, don't get concerned, call our office to see about your voter registration status," and directed people to the secretary of state's voter portal to confirm residential and mailing addresses, legislative districts, polling location, registration status and ballot status. Her remarks came at the Sept. 22 weekly commissioners meeting.
Warner framed the spike as normal ahead of federal elections and said the county and state resources are the quickest way to confirm registration details. She did not offer a count of messages or name any specific organizations sending the texts; the county clerk's office is maintaining a public help line for residents with questions.
