Jason Hall, Eagle Mountain’s recreation coordinator, told the Planning Commission that the city runs year‑round youth and adult sports programs but is constrained by limited indoor gym space, field capacity and staff hours.
“Right now this is kinda what we have for staffing. We got 3 full time employees,” Hall said, adding that seasonal supervisors and referees help but two part‑time recreation coordinator positions and two athletic maintenance roles remain open. Hall said the city recently brought competitive soccer back in‑house and recorded “a little over 800 kids” sign up for fall soccer.
Commissioners pressed Hall about reliance on school gyms, rental fees and charter‑school access; Hall said the city submits requests to Alpine School District and sometimes rents school space but availability is inconsistent. He also noted parks and public works now maintain irrigation and mowing for several sport complexes, which has eased field upkeep but not eliminated wear and tear caused by concurrent Saturday programming.
Planning commissioners discussed how the general plan and open‑space requirements could preserve or add regional parkland and multiuse facilities as Eagle Mountain grows. One commissioner suggested the commission consider larger regional parks or quadplex fields near Corey Wright and on the northwest side of the city when updating the general plan.
Hall asked planning to “keep us in mind” during review of new developments so fields, parking and multipurpose facilities can be sized to support rentals and future programming.
